Ltd, Network Associates Pvt. Ltd., Laba Nepal, ICT Frame Magazine at Union House Anamnagar, Kathmandu, Nepal.

The event was executed on Sunday, 8th September 2019 from 3 PM to 5 PM.

The Context:

A few Chinese men were held for cyber heist worth millions. Nepali Banks and Financial Institutions are on high alert after Chinese nationals illegitimately accessed ATM systems in the Capital. The exact amount robbed is not confirmed yet. The hackers, according to police, used electronic cards of at least six banks — NIC Asia, Siddhartha, Janata, Global IME, Prabhu, and Sunrise — and used them at ATMs of other three banks — Nabil, Nepal Investment and Nepal SBI — to illegally withdraw the money here. Police believe that Zhu and his accomplices used both real and cloned bank cards in a coordinated ATM cash-out attack, where hackers breach a bank or payment processor’s systems and then used bank cards to withdraw millions in a short span of time.

Chief of the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, SSP Uttam Raj Subedi, said the system related to the Visa card has been hacked.

An official of Nepal Rastra Bank, Spokesperson, Mr. Laxmi Prapanna Niraula conveyed that they are "trying to resolve the issue”.

The Focus of the Event:

1. Are ATMs a new heavenly spot for hackers in Nepal?
2. How Secure is Nepal's Banking System?
3. Is NEPS Accountable For The Hacking Issues In Nepal?
